The BRK First Alert SM601 is a battery-powered smoke alarm designed for simple residential fire protection without hardwired installation. It uses photoelectric smoke-sensing technology and includes replaceable AA batteries, making it a practical option for bedrooms, hallways, apartments, rental properties, and home safety upgrades.
This model is built for easier maintenance with LED status indicators, low-battery warnings, malfunction alerts, end-of-life alerts, and SoftCue™ replacement reminders to help reduce disruptive chirping. The side-load battery drawer supports convenient battery replacement, while the Test/Silence button helps with routine checks and temporary nuisance-alarm silencing.
The SM601 also includes latching alarm memory to help identify the initiating alarm after an event, a screened sensing chamber to help reduce unwanted alarms from dust or small insects, and tamper-resistant locking pins for the battery drawer and/or mounting bracket.
