How It Works
Electronic Educational Devices' (EED's) Watts Up? Meter is a power analyzer, watt meter, and electricity monitor rolled-into-one. To setup and use the Watts Up? device, which resembles a small telephone answering machine, simply: plug it into a three-pronged grounded (120 VAC) electric outlet, plug an electric device into the Watts Up? Monitor, then turn on the electric device to see an instant snap-shot or aggregate of the following values (read definitions at Energy Monitor 101: Glossary of Terms):
- Current Watts
- Minimum Watts
- Maximum Watts
- Power Factor
- Cumulative Watt Hours
- Average Monthly kWh

Multitude of Uses
Best of all, the Watts Up? Monitor can be used in a multitude of ways. Here's how this unique device can be used industrially, commercially and institutionally, in addition to residentially:
- Energy Saving Companies can now determine exact loading requirements for equipment enabling clients to see return on investment (ROI) and energy costs, easily demonstrating replacement savings.
- Electrical Engineers can quickly and accurately measure any 120 volt lab device without cumbersome and timely leads or oscilloscopes.
- Electricians and Service Repair - after outlets are installed, Watts Up? can quickly identify problems, measure line voltage, diagnose voltage drop or loading problems and educate customers about true costs.
|
- Conservationists and environmental programs require accurate assessment; the first step in going solar or off-grid is a realistic measurement of your current and future capacity requirements.
- Appliance Designers can obtain accurate power profiles under different conditions, enabling optimization of different control parameters.
- Teachers can receive a companion Teacher's Guide, which includes a review of electricity principles, instructions for use, lesson plans, exercises.

- Accuracy*:+/- 1.5%, + 3 counts of the displayed value (below 60 watts, amps and power factor lose accuracy)
- Operating Environment: For indoor use only (5° C to 40° C); altitude up to 2000 meters
- Other:
- Watts Up? Specifications
- True RMS power measured and displayed
- Mains supply voltage fluctuations not to exceed +/- 10% of the nominal voltage
- Input is via 6-foot electric cord, out is via outlet on top of meter
How To Setup and Use (Overview)
- Plug Watts Up? into a standard 120 volt AC wall outlet.
- Plug an appliance into Watts Up?.
- Turn on the appliance.
- To cycle through modes, simply click the MODE button (each time you click the MODE button, you’ll cycle to another mode).
- To cycle through details within a mode, simply click the SELECT button while in that mode.
- To reset any reading, press and hold the SELECT button for one second.
Warranty
- 1-Year Warranty valid from date of purchase.
- Simply return the meter to the place of purchase, along with proof of purchase, for a new meter or credit.
* Accuracy is of the displayed value, not the range. Some devices claim a smaller number for accuracy but it refers to the range. For instance, a specification of 0.2% of the range sounds good, but it is actually 3.6% of the display (.02* 1800= 3.6), which is a worse accuracy.
