| A Vent-Rite Spill Alarm should be installed on natural drafting
water heaters, furnaces, or boilers that fail a combustion safety test, or on combustion appliances after energy improvements have been
completed. All of these appliances are susceptible to spillage of combustion gases.
Once installed, this alarm will deliver an audible alert when combustion air is spilled back into the home, which the alarm is able to detect through its two remote temperature sensors. The audible alarm will, in turn, alert residents to take action to correct what may be a potential problem.
To install, first insert the 9 volt battery (included). Then attach the two thermal sensor bars just below the rim of the appliance's exhaust diverter using the self-threading sheet metal screws (included). From those two thermal sensor bars is a 22" long wire that will plug into the top of the Vent-Rite alarm. The alarm itself has a built-in magnet that allows it to attached to the side of the appliance. Press the test/reset button once, and the alarm is activated.
