Line Voltage Buyers Guide
Line voltage thermostats work on devices such as electric heaters, electric wall heaters and baseboard heaters. These thermostats high voltage and generally powered by 120 or 240 volt ACs, either the two-wire or four-wire. The four-wire is the most commonly used. While the two-wire line voltage thermostat can only be turned down to the lowest setting, the four-wire line voltage thermostat does have an “off” setting.
The electrical wires on line voltage thermostats are thicker than the telephone-like wires of the low voltage thermostats. Line voltage programmable thermostats can be used to achieve different settings during the week. For example, the line voltage programmable thermostat can be programmed to run on a different setting during the weekend than on the weekday. Line voltage thermostats are typically not found in US homes.
